I have about £100 to spend on a new Mobo and processor (I have 512Mb of DDR already) and cant decide on what processor to buy. My main use is Messanger and Chat with some Office work. Any suggestions???

Your tasks are not too cpu intensive and you do not need a dual core yet. Get this great new Celeron (Conroe L). Runs cool but fast at 35 watts only.

It costs less than $60 and is now on Retail here in Asia. You could move up to dual core later when the need arises.
Consider the Asus P5B MX motherboard.

It would cost you around £55.00. It has built in Wi-Fi and comes w/ the wifi antenna.

id go with Intel® Core™2 Duo processors but i hear AMD's Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor is real good

here some fact on the AMD

Athlon 64 X2 3800+, a dual-core processor running at 2GHz with 512K of L2 cache per core. AMD has priced this baby at $354

u could get the X2 3800+ its up to u hope this helps u out and the Intel Pentium D is good

aim for a athlon xp 2400+ or 2.0 ghz pentium 4. run at about the same speed and would be fine for internet use

boards that accept ddr and these processors only cost around £30-40

buy an intel processor for the money u can get an intel celeron processor which is good enough for internet usage.

For what you want to do either would be fine. You are not using any specially demanding software... so even the cut down chips (celeron / turion) would cope OK... but woudl struggle sooner if you were using newer more demanding software.
