Of course I would make my own, and pick out the best, top of the line parts.

Two 8800 GTX
4 GB RAM
Quad Core Processor
1TB Hard Drive
Huge 32 inch Monitor

Or if you don't know how to make a computer just buy an alienware

The best computer I have ever read about is this alienware. http://www.alienware.com/ALX_pages/choose_alx.aspx If you know enough about computers, I would buy all the top of the line parts and customize my computer. Otherwise I would go and buy a server. Those are more expensive, but are better performing that any desktop you could buy. If you don't want a server buy the alienware. Its the best desktop you will find out on the market.

Worth the money you spend.

I don't think I'd get a desktop...I'd get myself a new cell phone for movies, music, games and internet, because those are the thing i use my pc for. So I guess A nice cell phone will do.

Intel-based iMac. Biggest screen, HD, memory, etc. that you can afford. This is an Amazing machine...I use one every day and usually for several hours per day. Absolutely no complaints.

It depends what you need, doesn't it? High speed, definitely. Lots of memory, easy. Stationary, then a huge flat screen. Mobile, the wireless connection.
