Slimline is a small desktop that don't have much space to expand most of its components.

I suggest to go to hp.com and ask the question there.

However, if you have 512MB there might be two scenarios to face.

Usually HP's come with two banks to fit memory into. You can have one memory stick with 512MB in one bank or you can have two 256MB memory sticks one on each bank.

If you have the second scenario you will have to replace all the memory to upgrade to something higher, as you can't mix memory sticks of different memory size.

In case you have one open slot, you can get another 512MB to upgrade to 1GB.

If you still want to get to 2GB I have to say you will need to buy the whole 2GB (2 1GB sticks) and throw out the 512MB you already have. That is, if your motherboard supports the 2GB!

Anyway, I guess it will cost you less to get a new computer with the memory you want that upgrade with HP. My laptop upgrade from my current 512MB to 1GB will cost me $1,200 vs. the original total cost to own of $2,300.

That said, I don't plan to upgrade my laptop memory, but to buy a new computer. I can get a very decent desktop with Vista Ultimate and 2GB close to the $1,200.

Before you do anything read the manual and find out what type of RAM, and how much your Motherboard can handle. Your Laptop might only have 512MB installed but the most the Motherboard will actually recognize is 1GB. So if you go out and Buy 2GB your wating your money. If you have a newer laptop i'm gonna go out on a limb and say 2GB isn't a strech but if its getting to be a year or more old. 1GB was the staple for quit a while.
You also dont' want to be cramming expensive PC-5400 667Mhz RAM in a mother board that is only built to run PC-3200 400Mhz RAM.
Do your home work before you spend your money or you're only going to waste it. People in upgrade shops like Circuit City and Best Buy are going to try and sell you the most expensive ***-kicking RAM and you might be able to use it to its fullest potential.

im gonna guess slimline is a laptop, to get more ram you will have to open the computer and there should be either one or two sticks in the computer that have clips on the ends that can be removed, i would take one of these sticks out and bring it to a best buy or some computer shop and see if you can get the exact kind, but bigger sizes as you said 2gb.

As described by Stewie and Nadun, bring it to the shop, used to be so if there's a physical connection available then no problem; but that day long gone. Do it with a guarantee, this is not a rocket science but very easy to get it wrong (namely an unsupported or incompatible speed is used) bring in stuff to actually boot up and test run the upgrade.

it is widely used for 32-bit variations of homestead windows laptop working structures. you could lose everywhere from 256MB to 1GB because of the could desire to order handle area for memory-mapped I/O instruments. A sixty 4-bit version of homestead windows won't have this concern, or a 32-bit version of homestead windows that helps PAE (actual handle extension) once you start up the computing device, the BIOS could desire to correctly stumble on all 4GB or RAM.

Yes you need to buy RAMs and you have to fix them in to your pc. If you don't know more about computer hardware then go for a help of hardware technical person.

You have to use 2 RAMs( 2 x 1GB)

TAKE YOUR COMPUTER TO A SHOP. AND LET THEM DO IT IF YOU DON'T KWOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. ELECTRO STATIC DISCHARGE IS A VERY BAD THING FOR A COMPUTER. IF YOU DO KNOW YOUR DOING, THEN TAKE OUT 1 RAM STICK AND TAKE IT TO A PC STORE, AND GET ANOTHER. IF YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR PC TO A STORE, THEN I WOULD SUGGEST PC CLUB OR FRY'S. PCCLUB.COM OR FRYS.COM FOR STORE LOCATIONS. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, THEN TRY BUY.COM FOR RAM. IF THERE IS 1 GAP IN THE PINS ON THE RAM, THEN SEARCH FOR RAM ON BUY.COM IF IT HAS 2 THEN TRY SDRAM, THE ONE WITH 2 GAPS WILL RUN ABOUT $41 FOR A ONE GIG, AND THE SHIPPING IS FREE. HAPPY HUNTING
