Use a product to transfer all of your programs and data to a new system, like PCMover. It works best if both computers are on a network, but can use USB or special parallel cable too- it's just slower.

Of course the problem is that if your old system "took a dump" then it's probably not in a condition where you want to be moving everything. You risk moving whatever caused the problem onto your new rig. And finally, Vista might not be compatible with all of your old software.

If you just want to fransfer your old data files like word documents, excel spreadsheets, pictures etc- just copy them to a mini-USB drive, or burn them to CD/DVD. No need to use any special software for that...

No you can not swap out the hard drive as in plug and play ,different bios but you can blank the hard drive and reload it on the new computed with XP if you have the complete program with key code > called downgrading your computer. The process is easy if you have the complete XP program disc, Place xp into your DVD drive when it comes it will take you to several options . choose install in it is process to reformat Hard drive . do that then begin the install process.
