when I close down windows rather than it just going away it slowly drains from top to bottom? Might not be a great explanation I will try again. When I click the x to shut it, from the top of the window it just disappears down down and down it goes. Not unlike a egg timer. I have McAfee which is up to date and I have scanned for viruses and never find anything.

Any Ideas anyone?

P.S Might be imagining it but it seems slower than it used to be and there is only about 30% disc space used up.

I originally had them both in dimm slots 1&2, and the computer would not post. Now I have them in slots 2&3 (there are only 3 slots) and it works, but it says 333 mhz. The mb manual says only 2 slots will be able to utilize ddr 400, but it doesn't say which 2!!

Is there maybe a bios setting I have to make before I install them in slots 1&2 to make them work at 400mhz? Or, is it the frequency/multiple setting that is limiting the speed? I have an athlon 64 3000+ running at 2ghz.

Thanks.

I have a problem with my son's computer. It is a custom built computer and is running on XP with a realtek 97 AC sound card. (I think). I had the same problem after an automatic update but cannot remember how I solved it. I have tried system restore, uninstalled and reinstalled the card and find I am in a bigger mess than before. Now he needs directX 9.0. So rather than mess it up more can someone help me get out of this mess? Thank you very much.

This has been happening for months. Upon boot of Windows, or just any other time it feels like it- even if I don't have an Internet Explorer window open, I get a message pop up that says: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." There is only a CLOSE button at the bottom right. No "X" at the top right. When I click CLOSE, nothing happens- explorer does not shut down. Anybody know what is causing that?! Thank you!

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Norton, ran update and ran virus scan. I downloaded CounterSpy, Spywareblaster, and Ad-Aware, and ran all those. I keep my system constantly updated from the Windows site too. Still have problem.

I have some pictures and a couple movies on an old crapped out cpu, and I was just wondering if its possible to put the HD in an external case setup and plug it into my new cpu in order to get the data off of it, or would I HAVE to format it, leading to all that data lost? So in essance, is it feesable to do that for a plug-n-play for the information?
My old harddrive is off of a SONY PCV-RZ34G, and my new cpu is an HP Pavillion a1230n.

A friend gave me a desktop computer and when I try to connect my cable modem into the new computer, the computer says "cannot find/read modem." The modem was on and everything was working fine. I am still able to get online using my laptop so I know it's not a problem with the modem. Why is the new computer unable to find/read the modem. What could I do to try and fix the problem?

I have a fairly new computer built from a barebones kit. It has an AMD 3Ghz processor, 1-2 gigs of DDR RAM, and a 260GB 7200rpm hard drive. It runs really slow with many applications, from Itunes to Firefox. I have run Adaware and Spybot, have antivirus and a firewall. I can't figure out what is causing the processor to run so slow. It seems like every time I open a program it's running at 100% for a minute, and two programs at once can bog it down completely. I can't watch flash video without choppiness. Photoshop is very slow. Is there any way I can figure out where the bottleneck is--what's not working? A hardware diagnosis? Or does it pretty much have to be software, which baffles me. I'm running XP Home.
