adding RAM or cache by adding and/ replacing cards. this will speed up applications. If you have 128MB ram, adding another will get you to 256. If you have a 256 card, installing another will get you to 512 MB of RAM. it just depends on how many empty slots you have to work with. and get rid of any uneeded programs that run at start up.

Eliminate programs running on startup, whenever you install a program and it asks if it can run on startup, unless completely necessary say no. Run antivirus and antimalware software to make sure your computer is as squeeky clean as possible

stop all programs that autorun unless necessary then, run disk cleanup,then delete all unecessary programs. :)
