My PC restarts automatically whenever I first boot it if it hasn't had time to warm up, so I usually just leave it on and it prevents it a bit. It will still restart if I'm using an big application sometimes. It just goes to this HP screen. I'm running XP

CPU IDLE: 54 C
Mainboard: 36 C
HDD: 30 C

Are these temperatures normal?

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ 2.20 Ghz

I am planning on building a new computer with three SATA drives. I am also planning to use Windows (XP or Vista) and Ubuntu Linux. What would be the best way to do this?

I envisioned putting Windows on one drive, Ubuntu on another drive, and have the third disk as a share for all my Media, possibly making that drive the biggest drive (500mb+).

Then there is the possibility of putting a windows swap partition on that third drive as well.
What do you think?

ok, i recently built a new computer. it has an AsRock dual-sata II mobo, 2 gbs of patriot mem(cas 2), an amd athlon 3000+, hiper red 580watt psu, asus geforce 6600, hitachi 80gb sata hard drive, dvd drive, cd burner, floppy drive, 2 80mm vantec tornadoes, 2 80mm aerocool x-blasters, , one UV cathode, a red led side fan, couple LED's on the front, and a standard 56k modem. i dont know if the hard drive is sata I or sata II, but i figured it wont cause this problem. when i plug everything in and hit the power button, the lights just flash, like its trying to power everything, but it wont start up. im 99% sure nothing's plugged in wrong, cuz i went through every wire like 10 times. Long story short, brand new everything, hooked up right, wont start. id really like some help with this, thanks in advance!

Im about to buy a new computer and I was wondering if it's worth the extra money when buying a pc to get a liquid cooled one compared to just using regualr fans and heat synchs, and how much does it cost to get a liquid cooling system to install later???

My computer died during a power surge. It went blank...made a beeping and buzzing sound coming from inside it, and would not come back...

I tried F10 for system recovery and it worked. It worked for three days and died again....

I ran F10 again and it came back, but this time it was very jerky and slow...then one day later it totally died....buzzing sounds back, beeping, black screen etc...

Now I get my desktop and nothing else. It won't move...the buzzing sound is back, F10 won't work and it seems to be burnt.

Someone told me if I can get to the desktop, even though I can't get another thing, not even in DOS mode, can't even get to DOS mode...then it's alive. I don't see it as a happening thing. I feel if I pay big money to fix it, it will die again in due time...and it will be only be guarenteed for 30 days.

Next time I'll fully insure the new one and not allow this to happen again. This computer is only 13 mos old and WAS loaded...had a new graphic card installed too.

Does anyone think it's worth the money to have it fixed? IF IT can be fixed?

This is weird, while I was on my HP Pavilion, everything froze, then when I reset it, Window's wouldn't come on at all, I just got a black screen, yet the power seems to work , and when I press the eject button for the CD drive, it opens.

So what's wrong with my Computer?

Recently i tried to update the BIOS with F9 version of the Gigabyte GA-8PE800(-L) MOBO.The previous version was F7. The problem is the following.Despite the fact that in the BIOS bootup screen the BIOS indicates that it has been updated to F9 version, when i used the MSINFO32 tool of WinXP the BIOS version was still F7.
What is wrong here?
What can i do to make sure that my BIOS was indeed updated or not?

if I saw a good pc offer on the net (dell, compaq, mesh, gateway, etc.), the price tag is for store purchase. but when I am in egypt how can I calcuate how much money should I pay for it including taxes, customs, shipping fees, any other hidden fees i.e. total cost so i can compare it to buying it from local stores? it is recommended that anyone who did that before tell me about his experience.

I have a Dell now, it's a little over 3 years old. We just spent about $400 fixing it- that included removing viruses and something to do with a "heat sink". Now it is having problems again, seemingly heat related- it keeps turning itself off, and when we try to turn it on again, we get an alert about a fan problem and a thermal problem. The computer cost about $1,200 to begin with, so I'm hesitant to drop another $400 for repairs if this is going to be a recurring problem.

Can anyone recommend a computer that has lasted long and been reliable? It will be used by two grad students, so all we'll really need it for is writing papers, creating slideshow presentations for lectures, and connecting to the internet.

CPU: Intel Pentium III @ 500 mhz (socket 1)
Mobo: Napoli-2 (onboard sound and USB)
RAM: 256 MB (PC-100)
Video: MSI NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX4000-T64 64MB DDR SDRAM (32-bit) <------ NEW
Hard Disk: 20 GB (I might replace it with a 30 GB one)
Case: an old case from an old eMachine
OS: I can install Win 2000 on it, but the COA on the case is for Win 98.
OTHER: monitor, keyboard, mouse included

I known that this computer is crap, which is why I will title it "The Mediocore Computer" and my slogan will be, "...Because you can't afford anything better!" but how much should I charge for this? What would be a fair price and what would be the most that I can get away with, without worrying about getting my car trashed?

I have comcast High speed internet and was looking to purchase reasonably priced computer with specifications matching my needs. I want to be able to burn CDs + DVDs, and don't want to break the bank. A website that I could purchase a reasonably priced computer? Thanks!!!

My PC's an Acer Veriton 2800. The last I used it, there was crackling sound at the back of the casing, then the monitor and all lights went off. I switched off the main switch, turn it on and that tripped off the house's main circuit breaker. Power supply to my bedrooms were cut off. I changed the power cord of the PC, still the same, the PC won't turn on now. To my best of my technical knowledge, this has to be the PSU's fuse is blown - but by a single loose power cord ? Or maybe there are other reasons to this ?
