If your using Windows XP there could be several reasons however here is the first place I would look. Navigate to the following area on your system:
1: go to "Control Panel"
2: click on "System"
3: click on the "Advanced" tab
4: click on the "Settings" of the "Startup & Recovery" section
5: UNCHECK the check box labeled "Automatic Restart"
6: click OK.
This setting is used if Windows XP encounters a problem. This may stop your computer from rebooting however, it wont fix the underlying problem which is your computer keeps locking up or encountering a problem.
Next things to try are the typical spyware/virus scans. If this problem only happens when on the internet you might try updating or reinstalling your web browser. Finally, if you have any internet related software that runs while on the internet such as downloaders, usage meters, etc. try to disable them to see if one of those items may be causing your problem.
Hope this is some what of a help.

I believe the above poster: you ought to use Mozilla's firefox particularly of information superhighway explorer. in spite of the undeniable fact that i do no longer believe that's what's inflicting your issues right here. It looks like the two a million. an exceedingly nasty malware an infection (some viruses are clever adequate to cover out of your scans) or 2. Vista dun glitched up (it happens plenty that's why they stopped making it). What i elect to recommend you do is an entire equipment restoration. What this does is erases each and every thing on your pc, inclusive of abode windows and all your classes and your information, and then it places a clean reproduction of abode windows lower back on. because of the fact each and every thing gets erased, you will would desire to make copies of your stuff earlier you try this. and because you at the instant are not particularly pc savvy i might recommend you hand the pc to a pal who is familiar with a thank you to do it for you.

If the restarts seem to be only happening while you are browsing the internet, I would suspect your networking card or drivers. Easiest thing to do is update the card's drivers first, and then see if that clears up the problem.
If the restarts are occuring randomly (not just on the internet) then it could be a failing power supply or memory, as has been mentioned.

If it is not a software problem, you should take it immediately to a computer shop, to check and fix defective parts, such as fan of the smps power supply, fan on the cpu. etc.
