My PC restarts automatically whenever I first boot it if it hasn't had time to warm up, so I usually just leave it on and it prevents it a bit. It will still restart if I'm using an big application sometimes. It just goes to this HP screen. I'm running XP

CPU IDLE: 54 C
Mainboard: 36 C
HDD: 30 C

Are these temperatures normal?

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ 2.20 Ghz
RAM: 448 MB

Sounds like a virus.

Internet Explorer freezes, shuts down without warning, or the computer reboots.

This problem is often caused by out-of-date video drivers. Go to the Web site run by the manufacturer of your video card and download, then install, the latest (non-beta) drivers for your video card.

Alternatively, you can try the following:

1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.
Click Display (in classic view of Windows XP), click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

3.
Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab (depending on your operating system), and then reduce hardware acceleration a notch at a time until your system stabilizes.

The CPU is a little hot, but I don't think hot enough to make it restart. You should see if you can find out the operating temperatures for your motherboard & CPU and see if they're too great. My computer starts bugging me about the temperature when it gets to 60 C.

Memory error? You have 512Mb of RAM, minus the 64Mb alocated in CMOS Setup for the onboard video.

Reduce that allocation to 32Mb and see what it does...

Another thought is that the CPU fan is too slow, and momentarily exceeds shutdown temp. as set in CMOS Setup. Try a new CPU fan.

I can say that this happened to me when I replaced my CD ROM with a DVD ROM and two drivers loaded up, crashing the op sys.

try booting in safe mode and check the system-device manager to see if there is a driver conflict. there is also something about this on the windows site. there is a key you press when it freezes up and it tells you what file is causing windows to shut down.
