Hi all ...
I'm having Toshiba P3 1 ghz 256mb ram laptop. While browsing internet suddenly the laptop switches off automatically...

I thought of formatting it & installing xp pro freshly. But in the stage of Partioning the drive, the sys switches off automatically.. & i have to once again follow all the procedures for installing OS....& the same prob once again occurs......
So i'm not able to instal a fresh OS..

But i'm able to format & instal using the recovery CD they gave.. There is no prob with that.....

So my sys switches off only during internet & installing other OS..

Someone told me that the RAM is spoiled & i have to replace the RAM...Is that true??? I think if the RAM is damaged the sys wont boot..(correct me if i' m wrong)...

Do i have to replace the RAM?

What could be the probable reason for this prob?

Expecting your clear answers.....

I'm trying to really free up space on my computer and its like A LOT of fragmented files were there. My computers capacity is 37 GB and last month I had 10 GB of my own memory and the computer had its own memory of 27 GB. I now have 3 GB of memory left but its still saying that i have low disk space (like 200MB left). I really need help on this.

I'm trying to put together an upgrade, currently unstable: running fine in Linux but Windows XP is not even installable with Blue Screen. Fanning the CPU running at about 40 celsius.

Parts:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939 from eBay
ECS nForce3 Socket 939 from eBay
256 megs of PC2100 DDR 266 from an older AMD 2000+ machine, hopefully this is only thing wrong I do have half a mind to get DDR 400 probably 1GB in qty.

I experienced unstability before that prevent Windows from installing, coupled with low heat I suspect unstability again. I realized this is quite obsolete spec but hardcore gaming is not my aim and this question is quite advanced so I want some concrete answers or tidbits with reasons to back it up; not some teen's hotshot answer.

Can anyone clear me what’s the difference a brand like Toshiba, Dell, HP, Compaq, etc brings to a laptop? Basically, all the configurations they use are similar like Intel processor, Ram, Hard disk and all that kind of stuffs. So, what makes a particular brand to sell more or less when all the parts in that are same? I have decided to go for a HP brand which offers a reasonable price with good configurations than a Compaq which gives even better configurations at lower price?

I've been having problems on and off with my HD for about 6 months. My computer is a Gateway desktop from 1999, upgraded from Win98 to WinXPHome a year ago; a FAT32 drive. My SEAGATE drive is a 160GB, about 2 years old; also a FAT32. When I bought it I just made folders and dragged data onto the drive, it worked fine. Last year I switched from my Gateway to an HP desktop I borrowed, an XP Pro with a NTFS drive. My external worked fine w/it but after a while when I tried to open the drive (via My Computer) and it said that it wasn't formatted, and if I would like to format it. I called the company of the drive and they helped nothing. I continued to turn on my drive like normal and eventually the drive popped out of it, all files unharmed. This has happened over and over. I've since had to revert back to my Gateway and haven't had problems for a while, but it's now doing it again. I really need to know how to stop this or how to fix it.

I've recently inherited an older PowerMac G5 from a friend of mine, but it's missing it's RAM. I just so happen to have two 1GB sticks of DDR400 RAM lying around, and was curious if it would be compatible with this computer, regardless of the fact that it isn't certified to work with Apple computers? Logic says that it should be fine, but with this being my first Macintosh I don't want to go assuming things.

If it helps, the brand that I'm installing is A-DATA.

From my understanding, the commands to safely eject a usb flash drive is now written into the generic drivers on all windows programs, so its safe to pull the drive out cold.

Also, how is it that the files could get corrupted? When I pull the drive out, I always close the files first, so theyre no longer in use. So doesnt this mean the files are not being read/written, and there is no risk of corruption?

However, in class, some people have criticized me for not 'stopping' the drive before pulling it out.

Simply put: who is right?

i have a pre-owned puter that i got recently to replace an old one. i needed more ram, so i figured i'd crack open my old one and put the ram into the new one. well, the sticks won't fit. the little notch on it doesn't line up right or something, and i can't see in there well enough to know exactly. am i doing something wrong? or is it just that my puter is only set to use specific sticks? also, i think the power supply is shot, it shut down fine the last time it was used, but it won't turn on now. i've switched plugs and cords and everything, and nothing seems to work. is there a simple test i can do to see if it's that? (without taking out that power supply and putting in my old one)

As the question says, I'm looking for recommendations of a dolby 5.1 sound system for a PC with excellent sound quality. I don't want to spend more than $100. If anyone has excellent recommendations for a 2.1, don't hesistate to post those as well. I'm mostly going to use these for gaming and watching movies.

I'm looking to power a new nvidia 8800 GT (not GTS or GTX). My current PC is an HP a1730n, which has 2GB of RAM, an AMD 5000+ proc, and right now, an integrated card. THe stock power supply is still in there, with 350 W of power. I know I need a new one and I want to get a power supply thats under $65-70 I don't mind approaching the limit, but I want a reliable power supply without spending too much.
