Well the best would be one that is fully loaded, like Dells XPS with every possible option, but your lookin at $15,000. so be more specific and tell us what you intend to do with it, and what your budget is. ps. I recommend dell, cuz you can customize and get exactly what you want.

it depends what you are looking for. you can buy basics like acer, compaq... then there are those considered as photos and music like some gateways, hp, compaq... entertainment, most gateways, expensive hps, sony... gaming, some of everything, toshiba, gateway, alienware.... and obviously, the better the performance, the bigger the hole in your wallet.

your question is too broad... you need to say what you need it for, and what your budget is.

however, i recc you AVOID compaq like its the black plague. they have a horrible track record with customer service, so if your laptop breaks down, youll be left out in the rain. not fun.

and i just have a random question. how come people say "labtop" vs "laptop"? sorry to bring this up, its jsut something i just got curious about

Probably Mine. I got mine from Gateway, & I've used it non-stop for almost two years now... -The BEST $1,200 I've ever spent... :)
