Can anyone clear me what’s the difference a brand like Toshiba, Dell, HP, Compaq, etc brings to a laptop? Basically, all the configurations they use are similar like Intel processor, Ram, Hard disk and all that kind of stuffs. So, what makes a particular brand to sell more or less when all the parts in that are same? I have decided to go for a HP brand which offers a reasonable price with good configurations than a Compaq which gives even better configurations at lower price?

HP and Sony make the smartest laptops
HP is better bargain than Sony I guess
I got an HP Pavilion dv 9053 and I love it for the style it has
for the other brands, I don't really know ...
ACER & ASUS make really reliable computer at very reasonable prices but the quality of plastics ... grrrr.... I hate how it feels ... touchpads feels like low quality toys
DELL is good and also cute (less than HP) but expensive,
but you have to consider that, choosing dell you can put what you want inside your laptop.
Hewlett Packard POWERED guy

One factor is the ability to put different features inside of it: Dells are more flexible than most brands. You also pay for the guarantee. Different brands offer different types of guarantee on repairs, so be careful and know what you're getting before you buy.
I've owned a compaq, and am now using a Dell. The compaq was long-lasting (it ran four years before it died, which is a good lifespan for a laptop that I use. I'm really high-impact on my computers). I would consider buying from compaq again. I've been very pleased with the Dell though, and I liked that I could pick my features for it, which let me focus a lot of power into the laptop for less money than a powerful Sony or Toshiba cost.
Let's see... other than that, lenovo (the brand which was formerly the IBM thinkpad) has a reputation for being like a tank. I've known lenovo machines that lasted ten years. They're really expensive, but they're also hard to break.
Probably the biggest thing you pay for is brand name and reputation. Compaqs have a reputation for being a fair middle-of-the-road machine. HPs have a reputation for less-than-stellar customer service. Dell has a reputation for sometimes needing to be exchanged once because of parts failure, but once you get a good one it lasts for a long time. Toshibas have a reputation for screen failures. Each of these companies may or may not actually deserve the reputation, and your experience will probably vary wildly from mine, or anyone else's. Honestly, I'd take the machine with the best specs I could find in the price range you're willing to pay, no matter what brand that turns out to be.

well a brand has a reputation...less products returned means that people are likelly to buy again because of reliability..in terms of internal hardware they are all the same...allmost...manufacturers like dell or HP have their own mother boards ,ade by their specs, but they are all IBM compatible...CPU are made only by the 2 giants AMD and Intel..so there is no difference in there
the biggest difference is on the outside...the chasis...thosiba looks not so good..while HP has good quality plastic...the touch pad which comes in different sizes..multimedia buttons, nice and shiny..battery pack 6,9,12 cells..wheight..the LCD is the same there are only a few producers that make LCDs like Hitachi...so none of the companies that u mentioned are manufacturig that...LCDs all the same(it's like having the same food, but packed different)...the LEDs that come in different colour and size makes them look cool..the keyboard.
so basically the huge difference is on the outside..the inside is just like anyother computer

You pay for the brand - looks additional features color etc.....
premium is always attached to perfomace and good will... Apple Sony and Lenovo score more in these areas. HP the leader in this segment is a smart player Dell and ACER alsovery much in the game

Well different brands offer different things. Some laptop is good at their design but their spec aren't that good and vice versa. Brands also helps to determine the laptop quality, either it's a low end or a high end laptop.

They spend diverse quantities of components promoting and producing each and each pc. working example Acer's subsdiary, eMachines, specialise in construction budget laptops. they do no longer spend lots of money promoting, and that they use greater low value components to offer the pc. they could spend much less components on product layout and progression. (it particularly is only my assumption besides) many times the better the quantity of funds spent on making the pc, the greater effective its build high quality, layout, overall performance and so on. yet you may no longer particularly learn manufacturers because each and each enterprise has that is very own product categories.
