I was thinking that buying a TV tuner and using it with my laptop would be a cheaper alternative to buying a television for college. If I have a TV tuner, do I still have to pay a monthly bill for cable or digital cable or whatever? Or do I just install the tuner and I can automatically watch TV?

Hi, i dont have one yet so cant tell you what type, but i will be buying a laptop (most likely a cheap old kind). I want to use wireless internet with it. If i buy a laptop without the network card, would i be able to easily install it. I have a little bit of computer knowlegde but not much. Is it easy to insert/install? Do all laptops have a hole for it to easily go in. Can you use them with laptops that have a low processor speed (eg.500mhz)? Do you have to buy specific cards for specific brands? What are some good features it has to have when i buy one. For example what does 54Mbps mean? Is that good? Thanks

I need to re-boot my laptop and loose all the data that I've put on it. I've done this before but it comes with all that other software that I dont really want. How can I re-boot my system and only have the OS on the system when I'm done? And maybe the Norton stuff too. Thanks!

I built a brand new computer for a client. Before I sending the computer to the client, everything worked.

Client is now complaining his monitor is not detecting any signal once he power up his computer. He has a 19' LCD screen, using a VGA connection running directly to the video card.

OK, I bought my machine four years ago, and in computer terms it is prolly out of date. but it has a fast 2.12 processor, 1 .5 gigs of ram and 80 gig hard drive. The only problem I may have is my video card. When I bought the machine it said I had this 82845 intergrated video card, which sounded awesome at the time, but at the time I had trouble playing any games on it all that used graphics. Is there some website or list that shows the graphics card of various companies and shows the relative power in order so I can judge just how out of date my chips is or maybe it's not out of date and works fine.

I just bought neverwinter nights 2 and it had a list on the website of the video cards its supports.. then it had a short list of all the video cards it does not support and all of em were the various intel chips.. Is there something wrong with the intel chips in regards to games etc? Why dont they seem to work?

In May 2006 I bought a Compaq Presario, AMD Athlon with 512MB, 160GB, and the processing speed isn't that great (I think it's less than 2.0 GHz).

My computer has had problems with the Internet since day one. First I had a Linksys router. My computer would lose the Internet every two weeks or so, yet my parents computers were also hooked up and didn't have problems like mine did.

Now I have a better router (Belkin), and I don't lose the Internet as often as I used to. But the Internet tends to be very slow, and sometimes it's not very responsive. I re-start my computer when it's having problems, and when I did a scan, there were no viruses or spyware detected...yet my fiance's computer, which is a brand new, expensive Dell hasn't had any problems so far.

I don't understand, why is it that my computer can run any program fine except for the Internet, and it's been having this
problem all along? Is it because it's a Compaq? Because the processing speed is low? What do I do?

I've had this gateway pentium 4 PC 500 GR for about 3 years that has had no problems with gaming, excel, or anything that I've asked of it, until now. I thought that ramping the memory with a 512 mg card would improve on the performance of the already 512 memory (2x256 mg cards) that is factory installed. I made sure that the speed matched (in this case 3200 & 400 mhz) and checked the most compatible memory for my computer on the Circuit city website. Well to make a long story short, the performance sucks and games that I had before upgrading that were not framing are suddenly preforming terribly and are locking up the computer. Is there something that I did wrong, or is there a driver that I'm missing, or what? Any suggestions?

My laptpo was on my bed, on, and plugged in. All of a sudden, my battery charger started maing this hissing noise. Then my computer screen turned white. I unplugged my charger from my computer when I started to smell burning plastic, or something that smells like it. I'm not sure if it came from my laptop or my battery charger. I just this charger too. Roughly a couple of months ago.
My laptop wasn't on my bed for that long, either. Possibly 10 minutes, or a little more. And I've had my computer on bed for alot longer than that before too in the past.
Now, about my charger...I plug it into the wall and everything seems to be working. A little green light comes on, to let me now it's powered up, but when I plug it into my computer, the green light dims and starts to flicker, and it starts making that noise again. Plus that burning smell comes back.
This happened about an hour ago, and I haven't been on my computer since. It's off. Does anyone know what's happening? Any ideas?

I have a Dell Dimension E510, which came with 256 megs of ram, a Radeon x300 SE 128 meg graphics card, Intel Pentium 4 processor, and a 305 Watt power supply. The components I'd like to buy for 3D gaming are: a 400 watt power supply, a GeForce 8800 GTS 320 meg graphics card, and 2 gigs of RAM.
Does anyone suggest this setup for a 3D gamer? Also, I'd like more sites to purchase a 400 watt power supply for my E510.

I hav tried to overclock my CPU by adjusting the multiplier, the frequency, and my CPU voltage (to stablize it all) but every little change i do causes my computer to crash and give me a blue screen that says that the chages cannot be applied. I tried making the smallest changes possible but it still crashes. I even tried using the "AI overclocking" feature which is supposed to be set to how the comp sees fit., it still didnt work.
plz help

I can't get my mini to startup at all, not even in safe mode. The gray screen shows up and the spinning wheel, but it continues to do that till I get frustrated and turn it off. Apple has a few support articles on this, but they are way too confusing for the average user.....and Applecare is closed as usual....any help would be appreciated!!

Its only 7 months old.....thanks!

The computer was working fine last night no noises or anything, and this morning our whole town block had a black out and the lights went out for about 2 minutes. When we turned it back on the buzzing noise started. I checked the back fans, they are working fine. I spoke to a person who works with comps and he said from hearing the noise that he thought maybe it was the front fan. My uncle thought maybe the harddrive was messed up. If the hard drive is messed up wouldn't the comp not work properly? Do you have any idea what this noise could be?
