My laptpo was on my bed, on, and plugged in. All of a sudden, my battery charger started maing this hissing noise. Then my computer screen turned white. I unplugged my charger from my computer when I started to smell burning plastic, or something that smells like it. I'm not sure if it came from my laptop or my battery charger. I just this charger too. Roughly a couple of months ago.
My laptop wasn't on my bed for that long, either. Possibly 10 minutes, or a little more. And I've had my computer on bed for alot longer than that before too in the past.
Now, about my charger...I plug it into the wall and everything seems to be working. A little green light comes on, to let me now it's powered up, but when I plug it into my computer, the green light dims and starts to flicker, and it starts making that noise again. Plus that burning smell comes back.
This happened about an hour ago, and I haven't been on my computer since. It's off. Does anyone know what's happening? Any ideas?

It is a Power Supply which also act as a battery charger.

Sounds as if your battery failled.

Remove your battery. Place the battery into a plastic sandwich bag; you do not want it to leak onto anything.

Then try to start your Laptop with the power supply connected to it.

If your computer starts and keep running, your battery is defective and has to be replaced.

It is important not to use a laptop on anything that can act as a thermal insulator. This can lead to complete failure of the laptop (motherboard, internal power supply , cpu, etc).

If you want to use it on a bed or the like, use a tray, board, etc to set it on. Do not set it on material which can inhibit cooling.

Good Luck

Remove the battery from the laptop and plug it back in. See what happens. Your battery could be causing everything. Depending on the brand, there has been a lot of battery recalls lately. Check the website for your laptop.

Something inside you laptop has failed, most likely the motherboard. The smell of hot or melting plastic pretty much guarantees that your laptop is shot.

It's broken. Do not plug it in again. Take it to a computer repair shop and have a technician tell you exactly what is wrong with it.
