Ok, so I've ordered a new PC with 1GB or RAM (2x512), before I noticed the memory was 2x512 not one stick, I ordered another stick of 1GB (same speed) to put in it. Now, I assume the 2x512 are going to be running in dual channel, so will me adding a single stick force the memory to run in single channel mode or doesnt it work like that? Would that slow performance, or not noticeably as it has an extra gig? I know not the secrets of dual channel memory.

i have a xfx nvidia geforce 7800GT 256mb video card and i need to update the driver. should i download the driver from xfx or nvidia?? and what's the difference between these two drivers?

My computer is overheating, i hope. It turns off automatically after very little use, usually during processor intensive activiities, but not every time. I tried RMClock, but it doesn't show the temperature. I believe it indicated the processor was overheating, but looking at the charts and such i couldn't tell. Diagnosis at fry's is $70, not something i really want to pay ,especially if i have to do repairs after. Should i just buy a good heat sink (using OEM (it's a P4 BTW)) and see if that takes care of it? not overclocking or anything. Is there anything i can do before i pay for diag?

I just bought a computor off of craigslist. I paid $3,400 for it. This is my first computor. I don't know if I got ripped off or not. Ill tell you the specs on it.
5 gig harddrive
Built in video card
128 memory
pentium 3 procecesor
dual floppy drive
It has a disk drive but it doesnt work
Do you think I could sell it for $4,000 dollars?

i have a dell inspiron 6000 notebook with 100GB sata drive(toshiba)
i deleted a logical partition through windows disk management then another drive also got deleted and 2 extra drives other than the deleted drives appeared with a space of 20000GB and in the tray it gave the message 'hardware is installed and ready to use'
.I restarted my notebook thinking that problem might be resolved but now i am unable to boot XP. safe mode is not working (giving blue screen).
XP CD recovery console is accessing only 1 drive(not primary partition) in the hard disk and it is unable to check for errors in the disk.
XP setup gives a message that it cannot access the hard disk and cant give the details of the partitions in my disk.
can i get back my notebook to working condition without losing any data if possible

I was planning to upgrade my PC from WinXP SP2 to vista Ultimate. I also plan to upgrade my processor. My motherboard, though, cannot support the lastest processor. My cousin said if you replaced the motherboard and kept the hard disk, the hard disk will have problems. I just planed to upgrade my system memory, processor and videocard. The motherboard has no guarantee that it will work right with Windows Vista.

Mac is very expensive in my country and I can't find a retailer of Linux in my country.

I'm currently using a jetway K8M8MSR2 motherboard, AMD Sempron 1.6Ghz, 80GB hard drive

Hello Everyone. I got this problem and hope someone can help.When i connect a usb device on my pc (mp3 player, printer,PDA or my ADSL modem) and then turn my pc off leaving the device connected, when i try to turn my pc on, it won't start.
Well, it starts but stays stuck on the very 1st screen (PC info, RAM, DVD player, etc).
Anyone knows why this is happening and how can i get rid of this and quit connecting and disconnecting my usb devices everytime i want to start my pc?

I have a Dell laptop and I am trying to take off the ATA password. There is a user password and a master password set. I can change the user password because I was the one that set it, but I cannot take it off. It is asking me for the master password, but I don't remember ever setting this. Is there some kind of factory default?

my old internal sata hd is not being recognized in my brand new machine. i'm pretty sure it's not the hd because the old tower didn't recognize a new hd that i purchased and installed as a new master drive, either. i don't hear any suspicious buzzes or other noises and the power cables definitely work. are there any driver i need to instal first? thnx
