To correct what another poster said. Yes, you can use different makes of RAM in your laptop. You CAN use different speeds too. For example, you can use PC2100 and PC2700 but the laptop will use all the memory at the slower speed.

So, it is better to use matched memory (ie two PC2100 chips OR two PC2700 chips, not one of each).

Of course, you will need the right sort of RAM. There are different types of SODIMM so make sure you use the correct one.

As a final note, it's always advisable to use the fastest memory your laptop can take, since that'll speed up your applications.

ADDITIONAL:
I know in some desktops, you need to have matched memory size to get increased throughput otherwise it'll complain. If you can afford to, max out the memory on your laptop, ie get 2 x 1GB chips if 2gb is the max. You'll thank me for it.

Definitely yes with two different brands. However, I would advise you to use the same speed (like PC3200 or DDR-400), and it is usually best to get the same size, although I have successfully run different sizes together on an older laptop (128MB and 64MB) without any problems.

Yes. However.

They both need to be the same speeds (PC-'whatever') aswell as need to have the same timings/Cas Latency's (generally there will be 3-4 numbers printed on stickers/packaging for the ram) these have to match exactly; or you will end up getting memory errors galore.

Worst case scenero it doesn't work and you get massive errors (Blue screens.. 'Error writing memory to this hex address...') ect remove the odd ram out and you should be set.

Cheers;

yep justin stated all of it quite. shop the fan and vents freed from dirt which will cut back warmth which will postpone your aspects existence. upload greater RAM if it quite is expandable to apply much less capability, get a bigger cellular battery to run greater effectively, and do merely no longer kill it. yet once you left it how that's, you will possibly probs get 3-4 years in case you have it on consistently, if it quite is no longer on on an identical time as your in school then you definately ought to upload 2 years to that. confirm you hold it clean and improve your areas as you bypass so which you get the terrific out of it and you should be watching a 10 year lifespan. I merely gave my previous one away that grow to be six years previous and it quite is merely as quickly/reliable by fact the only i'm using desirable now. i did no longer pastime although, so shop a watch on stuff on an identical time as your gaming, the warmth can heavily shortens it quite is existence expectancy lol. reliable success!
