that since I am running, win xp pro on both computers, that windows would take over and guide me through, but it doesnt, what do I hit to start the thumb drive to copy from my PC and install on my lap top...tnanks a million

Before you plug the thumb drive in, open My Computer, and then insert the thumb drive. You should see an additional drive letter appear, usually in the "Devices with Removable Storage" section. When you see this drive letter, treat it like any other hard drive. You can drag and drop to it, or save to it. You should not need to install any software.

If the above doesnt work, the drive might need formatting.

Start Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Device Manager ????
Disk Management
Right click on the bar thats the thumb drive and choose Format. Then Choose FAT32

Go to My Computer and look for the drive like you would any other drive. If it is not there,redo the step. Sometimes it takes a moment for the PC to recognize the drive. Open the drive to view the contents. If saving : Save as - to the thumbdrive. Just treat it as an additional drive you can detach.

Normally a window will open up to ask what to do. It is possible that you have set a default at some point. Go to Start → My Computer and see if the drive is listed there. If it is then just open it.

It might just be silently adding the drive to your computer and you not realize it. Open up windows explorer and look down the drive list.

your thumbnail drive should be the last unused drive in my computer propably E: or F: and will be named removable drive just double click the icon and drag any files you want stored onto it into the folder.

attempt to work out if it works from yet another computing gadget. If no longer, that's some thing incorrect with that. Plug it on your computing gadget. dazzling click on My computing gadget > cope with > Disk administration > on the backside dazzling, discover your USB stress > (dazzling click) on substitute stress letter and paths > (spotlight stress) click on substitute (assign to a superior letter). click ok on your way out.

open the my computer icon and look for removable storage if you don't see your thumb drive it probably died also try adding new hardware wizard
