Obviously, I need to buy a new hard drive because this one has gone bonkers.
Any Idea how much this might cost me?
I have a Toshiba A75-S229 Satellite with a 80 GB Ultra ATA 100 Hard drive.
And any info on where I can buy a new one?

Appreciate it lots!

These are widely available locally (Best Buy, Circuit City) and on the web (Newegg.com is best). There are many different brands that all work well (Hitachi, Fujitsu, WD, etc).

Keep in mind that most of the time the problem with a hard drive is that the data has been corrupted. Have you tried backing up your data to a CD or DVD or external hard drive and reloading Windows? The restore disks that Toshiba sends with their laptops are very easy to use - try this first before replacing any hardware.

If you really do need a new drive, make sure to look for one with the lowest power requirements. Remember that larger drives and especially faster drives use more power and your laptop may be currently using a low power drive.

Laptop drives are a standard size, but some are thicker than others - look for the thinest one you can find to ensure compatibility.

Good Luck

You can eBay it. I bought my laptop hard drive from there. They are all pretty universal and will fit any laptop. Now its just a matter of choosing which one you want. some are faster than others, bigger...etc. Rnage from $50 - $250. Remember though when you get it, it will be completely clean so you will have to know/learn/find someone that can install an operating system on it.
