when I put one in my PC, it starts by itself (usually). I am new to a lap-top. I run windows xp on boyh computers, thanks

You need to turn on auto-run from CD.

Alternatively, double click on my computer and double click on the CD/DVD. That should have the same effect.

Check ur drive, see what kind of drive u have in ur computer. Then after u put DVD or CD inside, if the window selection not auto appear, u can go to my computer and double click in the drive that appear on the screen. another way just check your software. For example U need to install software name power DVD to play DVD or Intervideo DVD to play it.

You can not run a DVD in a CD drive, you must have a DVD drive.

Is it a DVD drive or just a CD drive.

I don't believe it will work with a CD drive.
