i really never understood what over locking does, other than the fact it speeds up everything, but HOW?

I am playing World of Warcraft, I have a PCI card not PCIe or AGP. I have an aftermarket 128mb PCI card from ATI. I bought it thinking it would help my lag out a little, which it did, but I still get about 10-20 frames per second. I only have 512mb of RAM. If I bought another 512 to make it a gig, would it help my lag and framerate?..

I'm seriously considering reinstalling my operating system, and erasing the hard drive, my computer has gotten so slow. I have the operating system disk that came with the computer . It's only about 5 months old, and everytime i insert the disk im not sure where to start.

Could someone tell me how to go about deleting and reinstalling my operating system. Also to make sure i can get it back up and running . It is a windows gateway XP.

ok i bought a GeForce 7950 GT, i wonder how can i setup with 2 Monitors? or it will work with one monitor? i try to connect my 2 LCD monitor but the other one is not working is there any drivers i should download or something?

I'm buying a new Dell computer and the guy said my old HP Laserjet5L printer won't work because the cable doesn't have a usb connector. He said I could either buy a cable adaptor for $30 to continue using my 10 year old printer, or else spend $60 on a brand new compatible Dell 926 Photo Printer.

It sounds like a no-brainer....i.e. buy the new printer, right? But my concern is that my old HP laser printer is (was) a very good printer, whereas I think this new Dell printer is the bottom of the line. But maybe printers are like computers in that even a lousy new one is 10 times better than a great one from 10 years ago??? Is that true?

I've never even printed in color before, but I suppose it would be nice to print photos. Usually I just print documents and I've been very happy with the quality of my 10 year old laser printer.

I guess the bottom line with me is that if the new one can print documents as nicely as the old one, then I might as well get the new printer. Right??

My computer runs this Drive C Surface Scan several times daily and I wonder why?? Most of the time it runs it when I turn the computer on but it will run anytime and it is quite annoying. Any ideas?? Or suggestions?? Thank You

Well I'm getting a Macbook for sure (do NOT try to talk me of buying a Mac, I've made up my mind :)).

2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
120GB hard drive
Double-layer SuperDrive

Is what it already has... now, I can upgrade it to 2GB memory and 160GB hard drive, but do I really need it?

I'm a college student, so I save a lot of MS word files (but I delete the ones I don't need every couple of months), I do save significant amount of photos on my computer, but not LOADS, the programs tipically use are: iTune, AIM, Internet explorer, MS word/excel, paint, adobe, limewire.

I'm pretty sure my pc right now has a lot less:
AMD turion (tm) 64 Mobile
Technology ML-32
1.79 Ghz, 368 MB ram
It has 60/80 GB of hard drive and 1GB or 512 MB of memory

I do all the stuff describe above and my pc right now is slow as heck,
So do need to upgrade my mem and hard drive, or will I be fine with what the basic offers?

Under the safely remove icon in my tool bar I says safely remove "then the name of my hard drive" its an internal hard drive and its my only hard drive. I think this is strange because if I accidentally click that I would probably be in some trouble.

Does anyone know how to remove it from there? or know why it would even appear there? If I find out how too should I remove that option. Finally what would happen if I did accidentally click that?

My husaband is currently training to be a Home Inspector, (boo hiss I hear you all say!!)

I am buying him a laptop so that he can use it for his training and also use it for his business when he qualifies.


Can anyone reccomend a good laptop which is easy to set up and also easy to use?

I have looked at ebuyer.com and have considered purchasing an Acer aspire which has 1gb of ram(?). It has vista installed on it but some people have said to avoid vista but others have said it is brilliant so I dont know what to do!!

My computer has made a loud humming sound in the past, and I was told that it was the fan. The person helping me at the time fixed the problem. Yesterday, while running several programs on my computer, the sound started again, so I shut down the computer. Will it be harmful for me to run my computer without taking it somewhere to get it fixed (I don't know if I can afford to get it fixed at the moment)?

I've replaced an old mother board with a ga-7zxe motherboard and !reinstalled! windows
I do only have 320mb of pc100 ram.

so when I go to youtube, my computer tries load the page, but my computer freezes with an hour glass. its locked. my mouse doesn't even move.(I did reinstall flash as per faq on youtube, no luck)

other flash sites work fine.

also when I play video (.avi) it locks too.
I went to divx.com got the codec, and succesfully loaded their sample divx video online and onscreen. It worked fine,
but it still freezes when playing a video from my hard drive,. I'm using divx player, and Windows media player.

I've updated directX to 9.0 and updated my video drivers.
Also have tried 2 agp cards and one pci video card. Nothing works.

What could be the problem?

OK well I'm thinking of getting a new computer either a Laptop or a Desktop, I'm wondering what the best brands are that are out in the world today? I'm looking for something that has lots of memory(or be able to add memory in the future), and one that has lots of Hard drive space(or be able to add space in the future), also it has to have a cd burner. I have a notorious Epson that leaves up to 38% of usable ink in the cartridge and then it will not let you print anymore.


Is there anyway to reset the thing and make it work? I have a CX4200 all-in-one.


I am aware of the manufacturere's warning that running it out can damage the print head.

My notebook screen is black. If I use a flashlight i can see what is on the screen. I have tried adjusting the settings for my monitor nothing helps. The notebook is not quite 2yrs old. It gave me no warning fine one minute and black the next. Can someone please give me some advice.
