Well I'm getting a Macbook for sure (do NOT try to talk me of buying a Mac, I've made up my mind :)).

2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
120GB hard drive
Double-layer SuperDrive

Is what it already has... now, I can upgrade it to 2GB memory and 160GB hard drive, but do I really need it?

I'm a college student, so I save a lot of MS word files (but I delete the ones I don't need every couple of months), I do save significant amount of photos on my computer, but not LOADS, the programs tipically use are: iTune, AIM, Internet explorer, MS word/excel, paint, adobe, limewire.

I'm pretty sure my pc right now has a lot less:
AMD turion (tm) 64 Mobile
Technology ML-32
1.79 Ghz, 368 MB ram
It has 60/80 GB of hard drive and 1GB or 512 MB of memory

I do all the stuff describe above and my pc right now is slow as heck,
So do need to upgrade my mem and hard drive, or will I be fine with what the basic offers?

2 GB of RAM for what you are wanting to do is not necessary (unless you planned to do each and everything you wanted all at the same time).

120GB hard drive is also plenty of space for what you want.

Nothing wrong with upgrading for the future, but I do not believe that these would be necessary upgrades for what you are wanting to use the computer for.

The answer is NO (without damaging your hard disk drive) ! The best solution is placing your hard disk drive in a Electromagnetic field ! that would cause all the data to be cleared out, but it would also damage your hard disk drive (depending on the power of the EMF you use) But I recommend detaching your hard disk and using *another* PC to wipe the data out ! it would be best if you wipe the data instead of simply formatting the hard disk drive (in case you have sensitive information there) which involves overwriting Null-Bytes on your data several times that makes it unrecoverable !

If you compare the price of upgrading now, to which it would cost later to replace the smaller memory or hard drive with a larger one, you will realize it is a lot cheaper to do it now then to do it later. Regardless of the memory and hard drive size, it will never be enough, and you will eventual need more. So get it now while it is cheaper....
