best laptop around and tell me the price

Everytime I try to use my laptop whether I'm downloading songs, updating my ipod or anything i do it shuts down and it gets really hot. But my friend has a laptop that gets as hot as mine and it doesn't shut down. I'm so frustrated...I'm about to buy a new one after only having it for 2 years. Help me please!

I have an old pentium 3 computer. A friend says he can put my current drive (6 GB with free 1.1GB) into a newer Pentium 4 processor computer box for me. The new box only has one drive slot so I can't add another drive later. Would you recommend doing that. The cost of a new 17" flat screen with new processor drive box (with my existing drive) would be about $250. The new box will also have a CD-R and DVD drive. Any suggestions?

We all have company laptops.

The company has always had a "computer usage policy" which prevents us using our machines for anything other than company business, but everyone ignores it and the company have always turned a blind eye.

However, we now have a new IT Director who is clamping down.

A friend has already been disciplined and given a written warning and now the new IT Director has asked us to bring our laptops into the office so they can be inspected.

I have never used it for "adult" websites, but I doi have all sorts of other programs in use that officially I should not.

Apart from (i) deleting any programs that shouldn't be there (ii) emptying the recycle bin (iii) clearning out word and excel of all personal files and folders (iv) deleting cookies (v) clearing "my favourites"... is there anything else I need to do to "clean" on my machine before I get an a** kicking ?

All advice gratefully received.

I know it is better to build your own....which is great if you know how to. I know how to run a computer ....but have no idea about how to build one or do not know of anyone that dose. I have now a basic gateway computer. I am a Sims 2 game player and have all the expansion packs....but i can't play it like i want to. Just to have it on my computer...I can't have any other games downloaded or pictuers or a lot of music. I want a computer that i can play my sims and other games...also i am a big pogo player..(www.pogo.com) . I would love to have more music on my media player and able to have more pictures too. My camera fell onto my laptop and I now have horizontal and vertical lines going across it with a spider web type impression on the screen. There is no indentation on the screen. Is there a way to repair it or do I have to have the screen replaced? Dell said it would cost about $600. We have a lot of files that we don't want to lose and the laptop cost about $900. Who can repair it for less than $600?

I have an MSI K9SLi Olatinum Motherboard with all the latest updates including the Bios, plus an AMD4600+Dual core CPU and 4GB PC6400 800Mhz Ram with 800GB of Hard Drive Space most of which is free plus an XFX GeForce 7950 Graphics Card with 512 DDR3 Memory and Realtrek Audio. Will it be worth upgrading to an AMD CPU AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core FX62 Retail Box inc. Fan Socket AM2 (3yr Manufacturers Warranty) CPU and would I see a Big Performance Difference from my current Processor as I want to install Vista when it is released at the best possible speed.

Only 1 or 2 of the 20+ songs plays 1/2 way decent on the Windows media player or real media player installed at work. The CD played AWESOME in the car..

I cannot install Itunes as I do not have admin privleges.

I have a 19" widescreen monitor for my PC. My current res is set to 1280x1024 and black fonts on white background appear fuzzy. I heard this was because of my resolution setting. What would be the best resolution for me to use?
