My friend has a Dual Core 3.0 Ghz Intel processor, and I'm looking in on buying a Core 2 duo listed at 2.13. Which of us is actually faster?

The difference is that the Core 2 is 64 bit (vs. 32 for the Core) and that the cache for Core 2 duos 2.0 Ghz and greater is 4 MB (vs. 2 for the Core).

The Core 2 duo is supposed to be 20-30% faster than a Core duo of equivalent speed.

There is no current Intel Core Duo 2 or Duo Core processor at 3GHz the only processors that are the Intel Pentium 4's or the Intel Pentium D series.

The P4 and Pentium D processors are almost close to the Core Duo 2 however the Intel Core Duo 2 out performs the P4 and Pentium D cores at the moment.

Your best bet is to go with the Intel Core Duo 2 2.66Ghz which is the E6700 series core :)

However the fastest CPU out in the Core Duo 2 series is the Core Duo 2 Extreme at 2.93GHz E6800 Core.

At the moment to save money get a D960, which is faster then the one your talking about.
