We all have company laptops.

The company has always had a "computer usage policy" which prevents us using our machines for anything other than company business, but everyone ignores it and the company have always turned a blind eye.

However, we now have a new IT Director who is clamping down.

A friend has already been disciplined and given a written warning and now the new IT Director has asked us to bring our laptops into the office so they can be inspected.

I have never used it for "adult" websites, but I doi have all sorts of other programs in use that officially I should not.

Apart from (i) deleting any programs that shouldn't be there (ii) emptying the recycle bin (iii) clearning out word and excel of all personal files and folders (iv) deleting cookies (v) clearing "my favourites"... is there anything else I need to do to "clean" on my machine before I get an a** kicking ?

All advice gratefully received.

After you've done all the above, use the disk cleanup and disk defragmenter.

Unfortunately, unless you have a wipe info program like Norton Utilities, erased files can still be detected and recovered if you look for them with an unerase program.

Hopefully, your company won't try to find every spec of misuse, but just ensure that you are in compliance from now on.

Don't forget to delete all of the desktop icons. Those are a dead giveaway. Also, go to the Control Panel /Add or Remove Programs and delete anything you know the IT Gestapo Kommandant doesn't want you to have. (The includes the fun stuff such as iTunes, WinAmp, etc.)

you can clean it up by going to start> all programs> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup and after that you should do a disk defragment. that should clean it up pretty good.

ADDON:::
to delete any program you are not supposed to have on there go to Start>controll panel> then go to add or remove programs> then remove those programs after you have done that go to my computer and then the C:\ drive then all programs and make sure that the main file for those programs you deleted are deleted.
