It depend on the following items:
1.how much u have to spend
2.for wat pupose do u need it
*if business then : dell , compaq , toshiba , acer
Dell is the best for business use
*if other use then : hewellet packard(hp) , packard bell , toshiba(qosomio) , acer
Hp : you can get this for cheap and good comparing to other who provide you with design , performance , entertainment hp has it all and its new model HP 500 is the cheapest ..this brand laptops shines when kept any place
Dell : its has a name for many years in the market of business computers it does not contain entertainment you probably get bored using it ( but it creates a business and richesness in the persons personality )
packard bell : it is a great laptop but comes heavy and looks big whereas people do not understand while buying laptops that they should always look for somthing small its elegant design creates a feeling of smartness in person who uses it and even who looks at it
Mac : buy only if you know to use it more than 10 % of the ppl using dont really know how to use it but they buy it . it just simply creates or makes the person feel that he is using a thing of the future because of its white plane color that it not so sexy
I have used all these laptops and even i when bought my first laptop did a lot of research on this i even took advise from the psycologist and after so much experience in the laptops i suggest you or any one to buy HP its the best brand ever made its got performence , design , entertainment and can also be used as business use ..

It depends on what you are using it for. There are several good ones out there. Since I am not a gamer, my experience is only in the business computing area. Dell Latitude D820 is an excellent machine, or the M65. You can configure it to the specs you need to fit what you do. Also Lenovo/IBM T60 is an excellent machine. Both the Dell and the Lenovo I mentioned are built sturdy to help withstand some of the rough handling Laptops tend to go through. If you want a Mac, the MacBook Pro is excellent.
