I am trying to copy my "My Pictures" folder (it's quite big) from my older external harddrive to a new, bigger one.I'm getting a JPG decode error- with the message "can't allocate memory for result image(s)! Out of memory". The old harddrive is almost full, but the new one is nearly empty. I formatted it as the instructions said before using it. I am able to see some of the thumbnails in a folder (in both harddrives) but others are blank and when I try to open the photo I get the above error. Is it because I need to free more space on the old harddrive? The copy process seems to work ok but then some of the pictures can't be seen. I don't want to lose the pictures. Any help resolving the problem would be appreciated! Thank you

Is this a really serious problem, or , is that what it's supposed to do---i'm a little worried...What should i do?

I am not sure where i've went wrong... I've bought a lovely new 300gb hard drive, and went to install it into my system, replacing my older 80 gb hard drive. On opening the system, however, I discovered that the hard drive already in the pc was connected with a narrow flat cable, unlike the normal wide flat ones i've seen.... (I didnt install this, a local pc shop did) Is this IDE? Anyway... I have used Norton Ghost to clone my old smaller hard drive to my new larger hard drive, and all seemed well until i removed the older hard drive, set the new one to "master" (by moving the jumper, is this correct and complete?) and tried to boot up... it wouldnt boot and wanted a cd to boot from....

This is my second attempt at this, the first time worked fine on my friends pc, but this one is not playing ball at all... Is it because of the IDE? How can I rectify this, please?

Many thanks in advance, I know many of you are far more intelligent than me...lol xxx

Using a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1645 running Windows XP, if you put the computer on standby then try to "wake" it, sometimes the machine makes a "clicking" sound when you boot it up followed by a long pause at which point it attempts to search for an operating system via DHCP. When it fails to find the operating system via the network, it prompts me to insert bootable media device and press any key.

Sometimes I can get the system to boot correctly by selecting F2 and changing the order of one of the boot priority items (for example: change the CD/DVD drive from position 4 to position 3). On restart, Windows sometimes boots up but it may take 3 or 7 tries.

Sometimes the message on boot up says that the Primary Master Hard Drive is damaged and then it sends me to the boot menu to select a bootable drive.

I also tried to install SP2 to see if it would help put I still experience the problems above.

Why is it so inconsistant? Once running there are no problems. How can I fix this?

I've heard of, and personally experience, 'memory inflation'. That is, closing programs and windows doesn't seem to make it completely give up it's memory load. A little of it here and there and after like 30 hours of computer use you have double the slowness while running the exact same things. Eventually **** will break and something will crash. Too bad, now you must restart you computer.

Now if this is true then getting a memory upgrade will only postpone the inevitable right?, that is the computer will run out of memory even if you keep the number of programs down to a reasonable level.

This is not just my imagination, I've restarted it at 430 MB, done stuff with it, used it, gone on the Internet, run programs etc and then two weeks later it's 900 MB with absolutely nothing on. Completely blank taskbar.

I am always surfing the internet, I am a college student so I right a lot of papers, Microsoft Office is a must have, Instant messaging is how i talk to a lot of my friends, i love taking and storing pictures. I also play movies and music. Anything I can store on my computer I usually do.
So, are there any ideas for a new computer? I also prefer laptops, but if a desktop is better, let me know.
