I have an HP Pavilion a705w...and it keeps restarting without warning. It does it every half hour or so. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Well it could be numerous problems.
1. You could have a virus.
2. You could have spyware.
3. You could have overheating hardware.

Solutions
1. Download free anti-virus software like aVast! Antivirus.
2. Download free anti-spyware software like Windows Defender or Ad-Aware Personal.
3. Take the side off of your computer and spray out any dust or cluttered dust with a can of compressed air from Wal-Mart or somewhere.

Hope these help!

My HP 735n does this too... Sometimes it says its a problem with a driver (my wireless Internet adapter for some unknown reason)... other times it's a problem with memory/RAM. I really don't know why it does it, your best bet is to take it to get fixed or have a very computer savvy friend take a look at it. I paid $50 to talk to someone I couldn't understand and they only helped a little bit. I also have learned to just leave it alone if it keeps restarting over and over... Just turn it off over night, and the next day it usually works alright. I know how frustrating this is. Sorry!!

Probably bluescreening but in XP the default is to automaticly restart.

Right click the "My Computer" icon
click properties
Click the advanced tab.
Click settings in the startup and recovery section of the tab.
Clear the check on the automatically restart box in the system failure section.
click OK

This will allow you to get the stop error message. The stop error can be queried in MS knowledge base.

Error codes come as groups of number such as 0x0000007b.

Most common cause for bluescreens is disk access problems.

To fix these run chkdsk c: /r from the comand line. It will error stating that it needs exclusive rights to the drive say yes and restart the system.

My be the powersupply but that's unlikely

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

The computer gods are angry with you. Repent and sacrifice a Macintosh on a great bonfire, and your computer will be healed.
