Media got damage as in physical? Send it in with a specialist shop for retrieval, they will open up the platter and electro-probe it.

If the media had got damaged then the last option to recover data is that take ur hard disk to a Hard Disk repair shop.they recover data through some Recover Utilities.
u will get ur data back as much as possible but u cannot use ur Hard Disk any more.
