Hardware - November 2006

My emachines computer that is at least 5 years old is always freezing. I constantly am doing disk cleanups and defragging. Also running virus scans with Norton Antivirus. I run Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware Se. I also always install windows updates. But it STILL freezes. Is this because its old? or what?

i cant seem to dump my hard drive to start all over, i dont have recovery cd's for this puter, but i do have xp on cd, so i took a hard drive out of a dell and tried to put it into this puter which is a pionex elitite, and it cam eback with a hardware issue so im guessing that the dell hard drive is no good? or maybe not compatible?

I bought my computer 3 years ago and now the CD-ROM drive seems to have a problem. Whenever I press the button, it cannot open and if there is CD inside, it will autoplay the CD (It's like there is something blocking the opening, the CD is blocked forcefully and then it goes back again and the com autoplays it) My computer is HP Pavillion 774d. Anyone can help?

I am not a computer person, not by far. But I'd like to know what specs, as far as RAM, GB, and all that other stuff (?) I should look for in a new computer that I buy my son for Xmas? I know with a PC, typically you need to clean out the registry or defrag the hardrive from time to time, but from what do you do when an Apple computer starts to seriously slow down? Are there hidden utilities I don't know about? or is there a good 3rd party software that can assist me with this problem?

When i check the device manager it says she have various audio thingys, all of which it says are working. But when i check Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices, it says she doesn't have an audio driver. So i looked at my own laptop and it lists all the same things except i have a SiS 7018 Audio Driver. if i download this from Sis will it work.she has one of those new fancy Vaio Laptops with xp? I would like to connect my camera direct to an LCD monitor so that clients in the studio can view the images as I shoot. The monitor I have spare does not have a composite video input, just VGA. Is there some convertor out there that will convert composite video from the camera into VGA that can be displayed on the monitor?
