If the soda was spilt INTO the keyboard you have problems. If you're lucky nothing hit the motherboard and shorted anything out.

Replacing keyboards on most laptops is fairly straight forward. There are several screws on the bottom of the laptop that fasten the keyboard to the motherboard/case. After removing them, you slowly lift the keyboard up, remove the ribbon cable that attaches it to the motherboard and that's that. It should pull right out.

You can usually buy a replacement keyboard on ebay for 20 - 40 bucks (including shipping). Replace the keyboard using the reverse steps that you took to take it out, and you should be back up and running.

While I don't recommend it, I've personally seen people remove a keyboard from a laptop, rinse it in really hot water (in a sink), set it aside for a couple days to dry completely (can't be even a drop of water in it or you risk shorting out your computer) and then reinstalling it. It worked perfectly after that.

Like I said, I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Just buy a new keyboard, swap it out and be done with it. But if you live in a cave, don't have ANY money, and have no other option.. I've seen that actually work.

Dell and IBM both have step by step instructions on their websites for replacing keyboards. Check your laptops manufacturers website for info before proceeding.

If you can't replace them from the manufacturer than just use some alcohool solution on cotton swabs to clean it. be sure you don't do this while the laptop is on, pluged in, and/or with the battery in so that if you do spill somethin in it it doesn't fry. ps don't worry, stuff like this happens all the time
