You're out of black ink. Replace the cartridge, and get a heavy use one - the usual moderate use ones last a short time.

You should go ahead and but another ink cartridge, that one sounds like a dud. Did you check to make sure the tape label was off the first one Including the printing area inside the printer? I would get a refund for the ink if possible. Contact the company and tell them you received a defective ink cartridge, they should replace it or give you some type of compensation.
