I bought my computer 3 years ago and now the CD-ROM drive seems to have a problem. Whenever I press the button, it cannot open and if there is CD inside, it will autoplay the CD (It's like there is something blocking the opening, the CD is blocked forcefully and then it goes back again and the com autoplays it) My computer is HP Pavillion 774d. Anyone can help?

There is a little tiny hole usually next to the eject button that you can stick a straight pin or paper clip in and it should open it for you. That's what the hole is for when the eject button won't open it. After you get it open be sure to check it out for any foreign objects that might have got in there

If the paper clip doesn't work you will need to take your drive out of the computor. To do that open the case and there is probably two screws holding it in. Turn the pc off before you do this. It's pretty simple to take one out. Be sure to note how you un-hook the cables so you can hook it back up.

Problems reading and writing CDs are common. In many cases, the problem cn be solved by checking the PC with free software, hardware modifications and cleaning the CD drive. I found the information at http://fixit.in/cdrdrive.html useful.

Most come with a pin sized holes on the front somewhere and its kinda rare not to find it these days that you can push a paper clip into and open the tray.

Somewhere on the front there is a tiny hole just big enough to stick a paper clip into it. You shove a paper clip in there, and she will open up.

turn off power and poke somthing thin and stiff in the little hole in the front .... the drive may be bad, but reseat the cabling in the rear of it and go to device manager and uninstall ur ide and cdrom drivers, reboot and let windows redetect them to see if it cures it ... if not then its time to replace ...
