Hardware - October 2006

My daughter place her foot on the table & this pc hanged !!!
I rebooted the machine & now, it's gone.
The situation is:
1. No POST, nothing on monitor
2. No Beeps
3. I hear 3 Beeps when I remove the RAM
4. Power LED, HDD LED, motherboard & network LEDs : ON
5. Fans: working
6. sequences though usual CD, floppy, HDD (possibly) cycle ..

It's a D845EPT2 motherboard with a P4 & a 300W suppy.

What's gone wrong here ?

I have tried directly through the Graphics card via rca(Composite), but it is very pixalated. The only way I get a good picture is if i connect my tv to pc and record playstation from that. But i don't want two outputs, just a pc monitor.

I use reason and adobe audition for podcasts, music, etc.

I had planned on just buying a decent USB mic for $60 or $70, but I went to the music shop and they tell me that everything will sound much better with a regular mic through a mixer that hooks up to my USB input. Is this true? With the programs I've got, wouldn't a USB mic sound just as good or close to as good?

I have a toshiba notebook which has MK4021 as its hard drive. It is a 40 GB hdd, 2.5" , 9.5 mm, 4200 rpm with ATA -5.
I am looking to upgrade the harddrive (higher capacity, higher RPM) of my notebook . Most of the new ones support ATA-6 whereas my current hdd is ATA-5 compliant.

What all hdd models can i use to upgrade my Notebook's HDD ?

I have both an emachines desktop and a self-build. they both have integrated graphics. one has 64 and one has 32 mb of graphics memory shared with the system's ram. they both have 512 mb of physical ram. i want to bump them both up to 128 mb of graphics. is there any way to do so without buying a video card?

I have an external drive and during insatlation of XP i accidently selected that drive and chose to delete the partition! I did not continue to the format stage so it has not been formatted, I have all my personal files from past 3 years on the drive. Is there any way i can retrieve the files? OK so my friend gives me a Chinese webcam she bought in China. I install it and after very slight difficulty it workes fine. Time passes. Somethings happens to my comp. (we might have reformatted it) and the webcam gets uninstalled. So I simply reinstall it but I can't find the installation disc so I just install it w/ InstallShield. I go to use it and it is dead blurry-like total blur!!! You can't tell my hand apart from my face. So I uninstall it, find the hardware (Finally!), and reinstall it. It is the same-dead blurry. Also it keeps wanting to be reinstalled. It acted like I had never installed it. Does anyone have any tips?? It went from acting fine to acting busted w/ no harm to it that I know of!! Thank you so much!!!!

I have a Tarka Removable Disk, the ones where you can put stuff in it and take it anywhere.Well mine says it is Write-Protected and won't let me delete or anything to it til I remove the Protection. i want to know how i can speed up my pc.its windows n its slow as heck when im opening up applications such as itunes, wordperfect, and limewire among others.taking at least a good 2-3 min to get settled and actually workin smooth up until i open another application thn it goes twice as slow.i tried pressin ctrl+alt+del n stopping some of the background programs but its still slow.i have a 256 mb worth of RAM n computers at my school hav 128mb of RAM n they would blow my computer away.is there a way to speed my computer up?by the way my computer is clean i defrag and use disk cleanup everyday.n it still acts this way.is there a setting on my computer somewhere tht could help increase RAM or virtual memory?so tht my computer is fast

GOT MY HP DV500OT 1.83 CORE DUO, 1 GB RAM "LAPTOP" A MONTH AGO, IT CAME WITH XP MEDIA CENTER. i have all these tv shows on itunes and i want to burn them onto a cd but in order to do that, i need to either buy a dvd burner. do you know of any good.. would have to be external.
