I have both an emachines desktop and a self-build. they both have integrated graphics. one has 64 and one has 32 mb of graphics memory shared with the system's ram. they both have 512 mb of physical ram. i want to bump them both up to 128 mb of graphics. is there any way to do so without buying a video card?

Usually the bios setup will allow you to designate the amount of shared use memory to use for graphics, but you may not be able to assign as much as 128mb. If you do find that you can do this, you will take a big hit on the system performance in order to increase the graphics performance.

Short of hacking the on-board graphics card to use more of the system ram - I believe there is no way.

No.

Onboard video uses you're RAM for it's onboard Video, unlike a stand alone Video card. The other problem is, that if it is a 64mb onboard, you can never increase that. You can always stick a new card in , and disable the onboard video card.
