I have an external drive and during insatlation of XP i accidently selected that drive and chose to delete the partition! I did not continue to the format stage so it has not been formatted, I have all my personal files from past 3 years on the drive. Is there any way i can retrieve the files? Please help if you can and thanks in advance.

If you feel that the files are very important you can always go to a company that recovers lost data this is expensive so you must decide if you need them. Any computer shop should be able to help you find them. Good luck

You can get that partition back with the right software. I recommend using Testdisk- it's free, fast, and powerful- it's one of the best partition recovery tools out there. Go to http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk for the info, how to use, and download.
