O.K. Unplug the computer first. Then remove the side cover. Ground yourself by touching the metal frame of the computer's case BEFORE you touch anything inside the case. Make sure ALL the connections for your new drive are good. The IDE plugs must be fully seated, and the jumper on the back of the new drive should be set to the "master" position, if it's the first optical drive on the IDE ribbon wire. The second optical drive down line on that same IDE ribbon wire should be set to the "slave" position on the jumper. Next make sure that the power connector to the power source is fully seated into the 4 pronged socket. After you have re-connected ALL the cords, turn the computer on, you should get a message balloon in the tray saying, "New Hardware Detected" and wait a minute or two. Then tic on "My Computer" and see if the new drive(s) appears there. If it does then the drive is ready to use. If the balloon message does not appear there, then the "drivers" have not loaded. Right tic on "My Computer" and select "Manage", in the "Manage" window, you will have a split screen view, on the left side you will see "Device Manager", tic on that, now , in the right pane of the "Device Manager" window you will look for "DVD/CD-ROM Drives", tic on the little plus sign to the left of it and expand that category. Right tic on the offending drive(s) and then select "Uninstall", then restart the computer. This will reload the "drivers".

The sound for the cd player is internal, seperate from speakers, your sound card could be going bad or unplugged, try updating the sound card driver first, then check to see if the sound card is seated in it's bay completely.. Good Luck

If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it , it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yk5zpr
