GOT MY HP DV500OT 1.83 CORE DUO, 1 GB RAM "LAPTOP" A MONTH AGO, IT CAME WITH XP MEDIA CENTER. LATELY I HAVE SEEN THAT IF MY START MY PC AND DIRECTLY PLAY A GAME, OR SURF THE NET, I HAVE NO PROBLEM, BUT THE MOMENT I OPEN MY COMPUTER, THE LAPTOP STARTS MAKING A HUMMING SOUND AND THE CPU USAGE SPIKES UP TO 100 % AND STAYS THERE, EVERYTHING BECOMES DEAD SLOW.....TASKBAR SHOWS MEMORY USAGE AT AROUND 280 MB, .....SO I HAVE TO RESTART WINDOWS AND ITS BACK TO NORMAL UNTIL I OPEN MY COMPUTER AGAIN....

I suspect some background task like Norton Antivirus or Iomega backup is hogging the processor. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and see what task manager thinks is chewing up your CPU cycles.

that's Windows for ya. Windows is the biggest CPU and memory hog I've ever seen. That's why I use SUSE Linux 10, and ReactOS 0.3.0!

Edit: oh wait, your install is DEAD SLOW?!?! I've never seen something like that! Perhaps it's a hardware problem like something is broken in your laptop?
