Hardware - October 2006

The program calculates and builds inventory, so it does take a while. Granted, it shouldn't take as long as it did. I tested out the exact same program on two different machines, one with NT and the other with Vista. The latter of the two took more than double the time to execute. I tried disabling most, if not all, of the enhanced graphics controlls inside Vista, and reallocating RAM and other resources to help things move along quicker. Is there any way that I can speed up the process a little?

I cannot override it Epson 700. It keeps saying to wait until the cartridge is empty. If I put in a full one, it still says the same thing and WON't go. Yes, I have turned it off, unplugged it, coaxed and yelled at it.

I've just installed Windows XP on my computer, and my monitor only supports 800x600, If I put it on 1024x768 it goes blurry and the writing is hard to read. The last time I used this monitor it was on Win XP, and I never needed any drivers installed. so why am I having a problem now/

Does the Linksys wireless router WRT54GS (speedbooster) offer any substantial difference in browsing speed over WRT54G ? I read the following review on amazon, is it correct : "The only difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GS is the flash and Ram memory. I currently own an Athlon 64 Venice core 3200+ but plan to get an Athlon X2, probably 4200+ or 4600+.

As a cpu fan I use the Thermaltake Silent 939 (CL-P0200D) 80x80x20mm, 2000rpm, 57m3/h, 508g.

Thermaltake homepage lists the cooler in both the 64 as well as the X2 section.

Reading the specs it only says it's compatible for Athlon 64 and Athlon FX.

Now can I use my current CPU cooler or do I have to get a new? I don't want to use the one that comes with the boxed CPU version.

I own an iQon pc desktop running on windows xp it is 2 years old and since buying it brand new I have never been able to burn a disc of any sort of data, be it music, files or images. I t keeps saying no burner detected but surely on a new pc there should be an internal cd burner!!?. I am sure there is one it does say i the manuel ...it possibly has to be turned on but i dont know where to find it can someone please help!!?, where do I find the burner in order to check the settings?. hopefully someone can help as I would love to burn all of my photos and music onto discs!!

Very odd, I started syching my computer with WorldTimeServer and every day, my computer needs to be adjusted by at least 8 seconds, so if I leave it for a week, it can lose several minutes.

This is an MST266 motherboard with an AMD Athlon 2100+ chip.

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I've noticed two things going on with it lately. Whenever I move my screen back of if it gets a slightist little jar the screen will go kind of sriggly like ( kind of like changing tv channels) the second thing that is for some reason my latpop will lose time. I have bought an optical mouse to replace a ball one. The optical mouse has only one fitting to insert into box which i sqauare (hope you know what I mean) My old mouse has a green round fitting. I have separate a purple fitting which I have put on end of otical mouse but still does not work and has to be inserted elsewhere. I want the same fitting as my old ball mouse, can you please advise if I can purchase a separate part which is green, if so what is it called please. Thank you very much

My computer was having a lot of problems, viruses and so on, so I just reinstalled windows and everything is great except that I can't access the Stanby or Hibernation options when I go to turn the computer off. I have a Dell Latitude D600 with a Radeon Mobility 9000 video card and a docking station. I also have 2 monitors that I would like to operate in addition to the notebook screen. I can use both monitors at once, but, when I open the notebook, one of the monitors stops receiving a signal. I believe this must be a software issue because I can use any combination of 2 of the displays at once, and the Radeon Mobility 9000 is is supposed to support three displays. Any ideas?

I am going to school and need a laptop. the three i am thinking of are: Sony sz 340, apple's macbook, or the alienware sentia m3450. all of them are pretty similar (besides the mac os). i will not be gaming on this system, but need one that is good for typing, surfing and watching movies and stuff. graphics is not a huge deal, but id like the battery to be descent.
