Hi!

The HDD comes with some jumpers. To be able to boot from it, you should make sure that one HDD is Master and the other is Slave. Make sure the red wire on the HDD in next to the power plug of the HDD and also that this red wire is connected to pin 1 on the motherboard.
Are you sure you connected your new HDD to the primary controller (ide 0 or 1, depending on the manufacturer) not (1 or 2)
Ie: my pc has 2 IDE's: Ide 1 and Ide 2
This pc has Ide 0 and Ide 1.
Does your CMOS know how to use your HDD? Older motherboards do not "see" newer HDD. If your PC is older than 1998 then....
... this is a workaround: on your HDD there is a table : Heads, Sectors, Cylinders... or HCS... write them down... enter BIOS... and, on the Primary Master settings switch from automatic to manual and fill in the blanks with your own data... This should work, but it's not the average (optimal) way!

Good luck!

if you installed it using another system and it's ok that mean your hard disk is alright. it must be the jumper configuration. i'm sure you know about the basic technical rule in installing hard disk, don't you? it is an easy task provided you know what your are doing, at least the basic. if you are not sure of what you are doing try this. make sure that your pc ide cable (the wide white cable with a red stripe) is position similar to the one that you use to install before, on the motherboard and hard disk. if only i can give you more help....

It might or might not help but in your BIOS check that your system is not setup in RAID mode or else with only 1 HD it won't even show up.

this is a BRAND NEW out of the store HD? Or is it a used HD you got from someone. Sounds like an MBR failure.
