The program calculates and builds inventory, so it does take a while. Granted, it shouldn't take as long as it did. I tested out the exact same program on two different machines, one with NT and the other with Vista. The latter of the two took more than double the time to execute. I tried disabling most, if not all, of the enhanced graphics controlls inside Vista, and reallocating RAM and other resources to help things move along quicker. Is there any way that I can speed up the process a little?

YES
Run it with an older OS!

I STILL use DOS and windows 3.1 on an older machine for many things.
I find that it LOADS more than 3x faster than XP, although the processor it uses is less than 1/4 as fast!! (And that doesn't even get into things like my OLD unix system)

The main problem I find is getting peripherals like new printers to work on the older systems, whch are NOT "PnP"!

Win 3.1 is a 16-bit OS, so it would run that application much smoother.
WinXP is 32 bit
Win Vista is 64 bit, however not many applications yet to take advantage of this
You should try to find a comparative 32 or 64 bit application to use instead.
As you should know, you're using a BETA version of Vista as well, which is an incomplete version. You should be sending feedback back to Microsoft because that's what a 'beta tester' is supposed to do. Beta Versions are for people who WANT to find the bugs and incompatiabilities in software. Then they either, report them to the software maker or figure out a fix on their own and report that to the sw maker. When the final release of Vista (all 5 versions!) comes out in 2008, your software may be more compatable than it is now, but since the software is over ten years old, I doubt it, as Vista is a step forward. Your software is a step backward. So now it might be the right time for you to step forward as well. Curiously, have you found any more problems testing Vista yet? If so, please elaborate ;-) good luck

Vista should have the ability like XP did before it to run a program in 2000 or 95/98 mode. You should be able to right click on the program and click properties. There should be a 'compatibility' tab that you can change several settings with.

That might help.
