My digital camera works fine so I know the port is working and I have Movie maker installed but the computer wont see the camcorder when its attached to the usb. Any thoughts on this?

can you connect anything else to the usb port? if not, it is your usb. if you can, then you might have to install some software that came with the camera before it will recognize it. good luck!

Is it recognizing that so meting is going into the usb port like does it make a sound or does a message showes up that says new device found but it just doesn't work? If it doesn't recognize that there is something in the usb port then the port might be bad and try another one. If it still doesn't recognize it in another port then the cord might be bad. You should also try restarting the computer

I also have a Sony camcorder and the USB wouldn't allow me to load anything. I went and bought a FireWire and it worked like a charm!

That's not a USB, that's a FireWire IEEE connector. (ILink). Thats for video transfers to computers with FireWire inputs.

maybe it's not plug and play compatible...did it come with an installation disc?
