What is a floppy disk, and how does it differ from a hard drive?

my budget is no more that $1,000; looking for use in college and want it with at least 512Mb RAM and fast enough processing speed for watching movies/DVDs and listening to music (so like 2.4 GHz at the minimum); at least 3 USB ports; wireless card enabled (either internal and/or port); a DVD-ROM drive; long lasting battery (8+ hrs); prefering 15" screen but can be between 13"-17" (prefer widescreen version); good video and audio cards; at least 60-80GB hard drive

for whoever can name the laptop, its price, where to purchase, a URL, and list of specs (that fall in range that i have given); the best one (not necesarily the CHEAPEST one) will be awarded 10 points.

NOTE: if there are better options out there and/or if i had placed an impossible range, plz also point that out (am not really the genius when it comes to computers)

I was looking and finind some 512 mb video cards for aroud 100 dollars, what's more important?

The chipset number (1100, 1400) or the video mem (256, 512)

Can you recommend a good car that will play oblivion like a dream??

when i turn on the switch my pc will not boot instead i get a continous beep at an interval of 2-3 seconds what are the components that might be damaged?can it be the processor or memory cards?

This problem just started today. I took my computer into work so the IT person could work on it (my computer was taking forever to load windows... sometimes up to 20 minutes). She couldn't fix it, but even worse, now I can't boot the thing up in any mode but safe mode. Even when I hit F8 and select "Start Windows Normally," it will load only in safe mode. The IT person is out of town until Tuesday now, so I can't take it back to her and ask what the heck she did. Any ideas?

Dell has the absolute worse customer service on the planet. This company is just trying to fatten their pockets and scam customers. I recommend noone buy from DELL.

My computer is a fairly new laptop by Gateway, not even a year old, and its already starting to slow down. Its a Windows XP. I deleted some junk on it, got rid of software I dont use, but it just seems to be getting slower! What else can I do to speed it up, or stop its decline in speed?

The problem is that I can't move my mouse anymore. It just happened without it falling or anything like that. And no, it's not because the ball from the mouse is dirty, and is not a moment of freezing. And I sure didn't pul out the mouse wire. So what else could be the problem? Please answer fast, it's getting really annoying not being able to move my mouse! I hardly got here to write this question!

I'm getting a new computer tonight, and I want to be able to copy my current HD (by simply installing it and dragging and dropping) to my new one, but I'm not sure that the fact that they have different OSs would matter. The old one has XP Pro, and the new one has XP home. Also, are there any other things I need to consider?

I have a Dell XPS t600 computer, bought new in 2000. It's running Windows 2000. Google Earth won't run in DirectX mode, and is too choppy to be of use in the "Open GL" mode. My graphics card is the nvidia riva TNT2 Model 64, w/ 32.0 MB. Is this too weak a system to use Google Earth? I've changed the display to "True Color 32-bit," and tried all of their other fixes. I have the latest version of DirectX, I've run "DXDIAG" and found no problems. Can anyone help?

It's a fairly recent Acer laptop with an AMD Turion chip. It's never run this hot before...

As it is now, I've got an external monitor plugged in, I'm only running a few apps, and my ram and CPU aren't even at half capacity. My fan's been running non-stop and the computer even shut itself down a few times. !!!!!! It's resting on a table with the back propped up a bit to for some extra airflow.

What do you think could be the problem?!?!

When I attempt to burn audio CDs, any program I use says the blank CD-R is already full. I have tried using a bunch of different CDs, and the CDs I am using works on other computers. It worked fine until recently, not sure what happened. Any ideas?
