One of my clients is interested in putting together a screensaver regarding their services, and wants to make it available on their website. Would you download a screensaver from a website? What's your criteria? Would it be at all of interest if it was an employment screensaver?

When I use one, I just use one of the screensavers that came with the computer. I wouldn't use a screen saver that basically sounds like an advertisement for a company, but that's my preference. I don't know about others.

I think your person considering this would be better off making wallpaper rather then a screen saver. If someone buys something from his company or even use it as something someone can get free through a squeeze page that asks only for a persons first name and email address would be a great way for your friend to compile a lot of contactable leads. Once a person leaves their first name and email addy then your friend can get them to double opt in for emails advertising your friends wares and Internet site and the wall paper might be a bonus they end up with which if used will always remind them where they can get that kind of product. The wall paper could even have a clickable URL on it to take them to the site immediately if they want to go there. Screen savers are old technology and like one other person said they often glitch some machines. In the old days of the first monitors the monitors would etch an image that stayed on the screen too long into the CRT. That is no longer a thing that can happen and thus has made moving screen savers obsolete. I have the windows ones on my computer but I never ever use them for both the reasons above and I probably would not download one for that reason.

I have a screensaver that my friend bought and let me copy. I have gotten free screensavers from websites, but not usually if they are advertising their services. I want a screen saver that is interesting and pretty. An employment screensaver wouldn't interest me at all, and anyway, I don't make employment choices at the company I work for, so it would be a waste of advertising on me.

What kinds of individuals are you hoping to advertise your services to: school-age children, college graduates, middle-aged working men, or stay-at-home moms to name a few?

I'd suggest something that would appeal to your desired target audience, unless you are looking to create one with mass appeal. Personally, I'd download a screensaver from a website, even one I knew nothing about if it was catchy enough. I don't have any particular criteria, but am more likely to be drawn to anything with moving 3-D effects. Of course colors and sound effects (that you have the option of turning off). Maybe you could make it interactive as well, like clicking on a certain spot with the mouse can cause something to happen, like the company's name sparkles or bounces around the screen or something.

I dunno, just some suggestions.

Sometimes I like the ones that come with my computer. But sometimes, I want a little something that's outside the box, you know? Work screensavers, I think should just be something simple to help prevent the screen from getting stuck/dead pizels.

I wouldn't download a screensaver from any website. For me its too risky that there could be a virus or something. But if its for work I guess it'd be ok as long as its cool.

I would download a free screensaver if it looked good, I don't think I would ever pay for one.

I don't download any screen savers from the web no matter how cool or from a "safe" site because of the spy-ware and potential chance of viruses. Reputable companies also put tracking cookies on your computer not just the "bad" guys. Not all things are malicious but they do slooooow your computer down.
