check and compare specs and prices. know what you want your card to do. i picked up a nvidia geforce 6600gt for around your price and it works fine for me. i also understand if i want to play some of the newer games coming out i might need to get a better card. but for now this one does great for me. keeps up with multiplayer games and works great when i play games offline.

look at whatever games you have or are going to get and see what they recommend, and get a card a little better then what they recommend so it isn't obsolete to soon.

P.S. check out www.newegg.com there prices are good and ships fairly fast. also you can compare and read others views on the items you are looking at.

What matters is performance of the card. Often you will find specs of cards with more memory actually offer less performance than a similarly equipped card with less memory.

That being said, the 7600GS is about the best you will do for around $100, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1067920619&Subcategory=48&description=&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&maxPrice=

If you don't have PCIe and it is getting very difficult to find nice cards for older AGP interfaces but if that is what you have then the Geforce 6600 or 6800 series should be okay.
