I've worked on other laptops with dead batteries in them that are hooked up to an AC, but it appears as though my wife's laptop (HP Pavilion DV4000) won't work unless I take the dead battery out and then hook it up to the AC adapter. Why is it doing that? Shouldn't it work as long as it's hooked up to an AC regardless if there's a dead battery in it or not, or is there something else that might be wrong? Also, we are using one of those aftermarket, one-size-fits-all laptop ac adapters because the factory one broke last year. One of my wife's students told her that non-factory ac's can overheat the computer and cause long term damage...is this true? Could it have contributed to the problem we are having now? Even when hooked up to the AC now, the screen keeps going between full-strength brightness and low-strength...What's going on?

Hi,

Just wondering, what is the purpose of having memory speeds so high, i.e. anything more than 667mhz, if processors such as made by Intel, have a FSB of only 1333Mhz. Obviously, if you use 800mhz memory, and the processor's front side bus is only 1333mhz, the memory will only run at 667 in any case. I don't see the point in people paying so much extra for higher speed memory, when they cant utilize it anyways. wouldn't it just be better to get an amd as they dont use fsb? any info would be appreciated, as im trying to decide on weather to build a amd 6400+ system, or a q6600... thanks! :)

i Need Help my router
When i connect to my wireless router at start up the router will be displayed as ''very good'' signal strength but then it says it is ''limited or no connectivity'' although it is right next to the router. i need to restart several times before this is resolved please help!!!

ok, here is my problem

i keep getting disconnected from a mmorpg game i play, i have wireless, the reason i know its wireless is because i can play fine using the wire, but due to the fact i have 2 pcs in my room and our router is already full of wires, i have to use wireless for one of my pcs, i can play for about 3 or 4 minutes but then get disconnected, i dont know if its the game but i do get disconnected not playing a game but its more like 10 or 15 minites when im not playing, any ideas of what causes this and how to fix it?

i have a txt file which has all words in a dictionary. each word separated by a rectangle type character (or any character for that matter).
how can i write a java program (im taking java) that will read this text file, and output the words into another text file as a list. maybe something like an "if" statement would do? program it like if i read a certain character (rectangle), i should move to the next line....

i am a beginner programmer.

[i have high speed internet, ran through a modem] my computer was bought in july, it's a hp pavilion slimeline, with windows vista premium. it's been running great untill my norton anti-virus trial was finished and i installed my providers [cox] anti-virus & now it's running REALLy slow & it also says "web page can not be displayed" alot now, which it never used to do. it says i have plenty of space? do you know what's wrong. please help. :] thanks.

My laptop battery is dead. It seems that the computer/ internet is running slower since it died. And I just upgraded the speed. Is it possible for the dead battery to be the cause, because it is only working off the adapter. What's the likelihood?
