At this point, it is better to stick with XP. Vista, like the early XP, has many unresolved bugs and is lacking in overall performance in comparison to XP. Your computer CAN run Vista, but it will run much slower than XP with your computer's hardware.

Keep in mind, it took quite a few hardware changes in order for XP to work as swiftly as it does today, and the same will need to happen with Vista. We are just entering DDR3 RAM, and Vista started out on DDR2. In comparison, XP started out on plain-old-vanilla PC133 SDRAM, and didn't start showing it's true potential until DDR2 and some better processors came out (not to mention stronger video cards).

I would wait on Vista until DDR3 and the yet-to-be-released Penryn Core 2 Duos are mainstreamed.

Your computer would be under the category of 'Vista Ultimate Capable'. However, it doesn't mean that wouldn't feel a degrading of performance if you're switching from Windows XP.

Without going into my niggles about Vista, your computer is more than capable of running Windows Vista, however I do think that you'll prefer Windows XP in the long run.

you can run a performance test on the Microsoft vista website.
1GB of RAM is enough to run Vista, but 2GB's is recommended; personally I would stick with Windows XP on a budget system because it's a lot less demanding.

Your system sounds fine.

If you go to Microsoft.com, search for "Windows vista upgrade adviser", you can download a small test program that will give your components a vista rating of 1 to 5. anything less than 3 would struggle.

it's possible but it will run very slow.

first, you must have at least a core 2 duo processor for more efficient CPU processing. then have at least 2GB RAM. as for the video card, i'm not too sure if this is already compatible since Vista requires at least ActiveX 9.0.

to summarize, i don't recommend using Vista on that specs.

Looks ok. I'd test it Vista using Microsot Virtual PC first.
