Should I be checking something else, is there anything else on a laptop that would couse a hard drive to die IE power supply? I just dont want to buy a 3rd hard drive and have it die too.

i am going to do a system recovery on my computer, and I want to know what should I do before i start it, for example saving files or programs. it says in the manual to use recovery discs, but i dont know what that does or what it is for. and i want to know if I have important files and pictures on my computer can I just save them on a floppy or do I have to have a recovery disc?


also do recovery dics come with your computer or do u have to buy them yourself?

I'm trying to decide which kind of laptop to get. I've used apple macbooks before and really like them, but I've also heard good things about the Dell Inspiron 1520. Which one is better for use for school as well as for email, internet, and instant messaging?

The power went out the other day, not a storm or anything, not sure why, but now my emachine won't turn on. It was in sleep mode when the power went out. My computer, monitor, printer and speakers are all plugged into the same surge protector and all of them turn on besides the computer tower. I opened it to look inside and the green light on the motherboard is on other than that I don't know what else to check.... does anyone have any ideas what happened?

Word/Excel etc. use to be part of the microsoft office menu. Word still launches when I open an existing doc., but does not show up in the items under microsoft office....

I have a lousy graphics card: 4X AGP 3D Graphics Hardware Acceleration (nVIDIA® GeForce4™ MX 440)
64MB Video Memory (128-bit DDR)
MPEG2 Realtime Encoder/Decoder board
with TV Tuner.

I am running Windows XP with 512MB of memory.
My computer is a Sony PCV-RZ14G

Now my question is, I have 1 free PCI slot should I:
1.) Use this slot for a new graphics card and leave the old there, and if so what is your suggestion for the new card?
or
2.) Replace the old card with your suggested new card with the same capabilities?
or
3.) Just buy a new compy?

I have a program that uses 3D graphics. I have DirectX v10 installed. I haven't been able to get the program to open yet and the tech support people said that it might be because I have v10 instead of v9 which the program was created for. I thought, easy fix. Wrong. When I try to install v9 it quits part way through when it discovers I have a newer version. How do I get around this??

i am trying to burn a cd from rhapsody.com. I keep putting different blank cds in the cd drive but my computer keeps telling me that i need to " insert a bland cdr" Can someone help??? ps and the cds i put in r brand new and i now for a fack that they are blank.

mpeg 4 or mp4. Is there a program that can do this. I've tried lots and they don't convert to mp4 or mpeg 4. Those are the only formats I can convert them to do work on my pocketdish. So is there one that's free (and not just free to try but actually free)??

I live in a college dorm. I used to be able to see everyone else's shared iTunes music back when my laptop was just plugged into the ethernet in the wall. I'm using the free ad-aware se personal right now and just notice that ad-aware 2007 free is out. Should I switch to the new version or wait? I have to assume that it has been out for several months. I have read that several people don't like the new version and some do like it. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to switch but yet, I don't want to get the new version if ad-aware is still working out the bugs.

if you are reading a page on the computer you can scroll down by rolling the scroller on the top of the mouse. I use to be able to do this & now I cant, I have to use the scroll bar on the right side if the screen. Anyone know how I can fix this?
