Is it really safe that they beam out free wifi to anyone who is in the shop. couldn't a hacker just use it to get what he/she wants done?

NO. It is unsecured. Do not put anything personal while attached to any unsecured network.

Actually, they may be able to do that. I'm not sure if Starbucks or any other coffee shop that gives out free Wi Fi has any blocking software or something like that installed, but if they don't, then you may be able to do something "bad."

no i don't think it's very safe but who would go to starbucks to hack into stuff anyway unless they're some loser who has no life...
i'd suggest that u use ur own computer at home
