When I plugged in my USB game controller into my windows Vista, it says that the device is unknown, so I do not know how to install it.... :(
Is there any way to manually install or tell vista what the device is?

I really don't want to 'upgrade' to XP. And Im not sure how to contact the makers of this controller. So there is absolutely no hope then? No way to manually choose what device it is?

Download the latest vista driver for your game controller from the manufacturer's website. If you are lucky there should be one there. That's the problem with vista. Not all devices are supported compare to Windows XP. Either get another game controller that will work with vista or wait until a driver is available for your current game controller.

It sounds like the game controllers device driver is not installed correctly, or is not compatible with Vista. This is the number one reason for a "Unknown Device" error.

Check with the manufacturer of the game controller and see if they have a driver which is compatible with Vista. That is your best bet. Go to the support website and search for updated or different drivers for the device. If you can't find what you are looking for then contact their support office. There should be either a email address, a phone number or both. Somebody in the technical department should know what your particular device needs.

Good luck and have a nice day.

That's the problem with Vista... it doesn't have the drivers you need. You'll have to go to the company that made your game controller to get updated drivers from THEM that will work with Vista.
