I've been looking at different optical drives and the price range really varies. 90% of this computer will be for gaming and I may burn CDs/DVDs from time to time. Any suggestions or things I should look for when I go to buy one? Thanks !

A friend asked me to check his computer.
When the PC is powered on the speaker emits 1 long beep - 2 beeps then a funky sound.

I've a uploaded a video with my cellphone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MFEVSRqBhQ

My guess is the video chip is damaged and so the image does not come up on the monitor.
Do you think he should buy a new motherboard?

I am trying to decide whether to upgrade to IE 7 or switch to using Firefox. I've heard that IE 7 has some issues and Firefox is faster and more flexible. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop.

Thanks!

I have a Comcast wireless DSL router
When anyone logs on Windows XP states
"acquiring network address"

When I look at the properties window of the connection status

icon on the task bar
The internet protocol item shows that I have no IP address

Does the router assign us the router IP ?

How does that work
each time someone connects?

It is unfortunate that the Vista sucks brigade have managed to make such an impression, as many of them have not even tried it and have just jumped on the bandwagon.

Everyone seems to have a short memory as DO YOU REMEMBER the XP sucks brigade? They couldnt imagine how life could be after Windows 98se.

Lets just face it, so many just dont like change.

So the next time you here the paraphrase vista sucks, take it with a pinch of salt, the very least ask them to justify their comment and many of them will not be able to, as they simply dont know as they have never used it and going on hearsay.

Is It Absolutely Essential That I Have 2GB Of RAM To Run Windows Vista?
Microsoft said 512MB was the minimum requirement
But from what I have heard you need at least 1GB to run it and 2GB will run it smoothly. How does Vista work with 1GB of RAM?

I am looking to create a "swap" site, so it will have tons of pages as there will be many listings. What type of service do I need to have to use thousands and thousands of pages? What is a really good, yet fairly cheap hosting place?

example:

unsigned char foo[5] = {0x01, 0x02, 0x03, 0x04, 0x05};

short bar;

//bar should be the 2 byte value spanning foo[1] and foo[2];

bar = (short)(foo[1] ) + (short)(foo[2] * 256); //this is correct.

I can do it this way but i was wondering if there was a casting mechanism to accomplish this without explicity addressing the two separate elements.

//Something like this...
//will only copy the 8 bit value in foo[1].

bar = (short)(*(foo + 1));

suggestions?

I have 2 towers, one with Win ME and one with Win 98. I was hoping to connect the two so I can use all the hardware of both simultaneously without using two different systems. Is this possible? If I can do this, will it combine the power of the processor and /or increase the memory size?
